Birth: Apr. 27, 1804
Guilford County
North Carolina, USA
Death: Oct. 16, 1868
Guilford County
North Carolina, USA

Simeon helped out on his father's farm until age 24 when he married Sarah. The marriage occurred in Centre Township on the 14th of August, 1828. Simeon was immediately disowned by his Quaker Church at Centre for marrying a woman who was not of the Quaker faith. Sarah later joined the Quaker Church, however, and their children were raised in the Quaker religion. Simeon was a farmer but supplemented his income by mining gold and copper on his land. He was educated and well read.

Simeon was a strong Quaker, and as such, was very much against slavery. He subscribed to the political paper "The National Era" which was the first abolition paper published in the north and east and the second such in the nation.
