Daughter of Jay & Georgia (Alexander) Hockensmith.
The family moved to Havelock, a suburb of Lincoln, where Helene would attend her primary and secondary education. Helene graduated from Northeast High School in 1945, and began attending the Lincoln School of Commerce in Business and Accounting. She would begin her career working for the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce. In 1946, she married Harry H. Becker of Lincoln. Soon after, they would begin raising a family, which would include two sons and one daughter.

In 1959, her husband's job transferred them from Lincoln to Columbus where they would reside for the remainder of their lives. Helene continued her career as a bookkeeper, and expanded her career into tax accounting, working for various firms including David Duren & Associates and Fleischer Manufacturing. In July 1980, she opened up her own accounting business. She would continue with her business until her death. She loved bookkeeping and took special pride and joy in working with her clients.

Helene became a very active member of the community, volunteering at the Columbus Community Hospital, playing in various bridge groups, participating in dance clubs, playing in the summer golf leagues, and was a long-standing member of the Federated Church. Helene was always an avid sports enthusiast and enjoyed watching her kids and grandkids participate in all kinds of sporting events. She loved to be outdoors and always took special pride in maintaining her home and garden. She was also an avid fan of the Nebraska football team, never missing a game.

Helene is survived by her son, James (Karly) Becker, of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; grandson, Troy (Danielle), of Burlington, Vt.; grandson, Trent (Vicky) Becker, of Parker, Colo.; great-granddaughter, Abigal Becker, of Parker, Colo.; son, Doug (Jan) Becker, of York; grandson, Dax Becker, of York; granddaughter, Halli Becker, of Henderson, Nev.; granddaughter, Kate Becker, of Lincoln; daughter, Jane Galusha, of Dana Point, Calif.; grandson, Tadd Galusha, of Vancouver, Wash; and granddaughter, Morgan Galusha, of Seattle, Wash.

The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Jenny, Leah, Lisa, and Cookie, from the Columbus Community Hospital Hospice for their wonderful care and support.
