William Hobby was the son of Andrew B Hobby and Lidda Sweat. He fought with his four brothers, Berrien, Jesse, James, and Andrew in the 10th Battalion of the Georgia (the Worth Rebels).

He married Elizabeth Willis April 26, 1866
