Ruth E. Clark, age 88 of Centerville died Sunday August 7, 2005 at Mercy Medical Center, Centerville.
Born October 23, 1916 on a farm North of Plano, Iowa to Clyde and Jesse (Steele) Hixenbaugh. She is the third of seven children. Her father was a long time local elementary principal and her mother was a homemaker. Ruth graduated from Centerville High School in 1934 and Jr. College in 1936. She then began teaching in the rural schools. Among these were; Brushy, Galesbury, Sunshine, and Tea Garden. On May 30, 1937 Ruth was married to Bill Clark. She left teaching to become a wife and homemaker. All three sons and families live in Centerville, there are eight grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Ruth returned to teaching in 1955. She continued her education and graduated from Northeast Missouri State Teachers College at Kirksville, Missouri in 1967. She taught many years at Mystic and then at Lakefview Elementary School here in Centerville. She retired from teaching with 31 years experience. Ruth has always enjoyed travel. Her many trips include traveling with the Friendship Force out of Des Moines, Iowa. She toured in Europe five times and also visited South America, Japan, China, Alaska, and Hawaii. She collected various articles during her travels. Ruth is a member of the Drake Avenue Christian Church and served as treasurer for the WSCS. She is also a member of the Hospital Auxillary. Other clubs and organizations that she belonged to include; ODO Club, YW Study Club, CEA Member, Delta Kappa and the Retired Teachers Association in July of 2003 Ruth moved to The Continental at St. Joseph's. She enjoys visiting with family, friends, and former students. She is very appreciative of the staff and everything that they do.

She is survived by three chidren, Joe of Centervile, Bruce and his wife Ruth of Centerville, Roger and his wife Jill of Centerville; 8 grandchildren, Cheryl Kirkland and her husband Ronnie of Numa, Joe Clark and his wife Tracey of Centerville, Debbie Kauzlarich and her husband Mark of Centerville, Diane Baethke and her husband Max of Owasa, OK, Richard of Centerville, Kathy Jackson and her husband Scott of Centerville, Kristie Band and her husband Justin of San Antonio, TX, Steve Clark and his wife Rachael of Centerville, 20 great grandchildren, a sister Cldene Hindley of Centerville, a brother Gale Hixenbaugh of Dubuque, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her husband Bill, Parents, and a daughter in law Judy Clark.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday, August 10, 2005 at the Thomas Lange Funeral Home, Centerville with Pastors Joan White and Kay Singley officiating. Friends may call all day on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Highland Cemetery, Mystic, Iowa. A memorial has been established to either the Children's Library at the Drake Public Library or the Drake Ave. Christian Church and may be left or mailed to the Thomas Lange Funeral Home, POBox 6, Centerville, Iowa 52544
