Imogene "Jean" Halbert, 76, of Hildreth died Monday, May 17, 2010, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Jean was born Aug. 29, 1933, in Bel Aire, Kan., to Harry and Myrtle (Chance) Hitchcock.
On May 16, 1953, she married Reid Halbert in Hernando, Miss.
Survivors are: sons, Steven Halbert and his wife, Janet, of Kearney and David Halbert and his wife, Amy, of Hastings; daughters, Penny Jacob and her husband, Johnny, of Franklin and Regena Halbert of Hildreth; four grandchildren; brother, Joe Hitchcock of Hildreth; and sisters, Eva Glenn and Dorothy Hunter, both of Red Cloud and a host of friends and relatives.
She grew up near Inavale and graduated from Red Cloud High School. She and Reid lived in Memphis, Tenn., while Reid served in the U.S. Navy. They later lived in Grand Island and operated King's Food Host in Hastings and Grand Island. They also managed the Travel Lodge in Grand Island.
Jean moved to Henderson, Nev., in 1972 and operated a cleaning business. She then moved to Boulder City, Nev., and owned and operated an office supply business. In 1985, she moved to Hildreth.
She was in death by five brothers.
