Howard Hinman Howard passed away May 27, 2009 at the age of 86, following a massive stroke. He was born in Ranger, Texas, one of ten children of Andy and Ida Hinman (deceased). He is survived by his partner, Bruce Henderson, and by many nieces and nephews, including Monica Bates (Oakhurst, CA), Randy Knight (Post Falls, ID) Shraddha Knight (Valley Center, CA), Brandon Knight (Huntington Beach, CA), Mike Knight (Mission Viejo, CA), and Garlan Hinman (Bay City, TX). Howard served in the U.S. Army 1943-46, and was a decorated veteran of the Battle of the Bulge, awarded two Bronze Stars and other commendations. After the war, he joined the Air Force Reserves and was called to active duty 1950-51. Howard was a resident of San Jose for over 50 years, working as an accountant and office manager for several general contracting companies before retiring from Ernest E. Pestana, Inc. Howard was a kind, gentle, and loving man with a bright smile and a wonderful sense of humor. He enjoyed travel, get-togethers with family and friends, and very, very dry martinis. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He would have wanted to thank Kaiser Santa Clara for managing his complex health issues so well, and the wonderful staff at Rosegarden Dialysis for their care the last three years. At his request, there will be no services. Those interested may make donations to the American Heart Association or the National Kidney Foundation . Join us for a celebration of his life on June 27th, at the Three Flames Restaurant, 1547 Meridian Ave., from 1 - 5.
