She was an active member of Timbo Landmark Missionary Baptist Church, where she played piano. Jean loved her family, friends and her beloved dog, Bear. Her passions in life were music, church, and going to thrift stores. She was fortunate to have incorporated her passion into her career as a public school music teacher. She began her teaching career in 1974 at Flippin High School in Flippin, Arkansas. She shared her love of music with many children and directed her students in productions such as Peter Rabbit; You're A Good, Man Charlie Brown; and Bye, Bye Birdie. She also taught at Clinton, St. Joseph Catholic School in Conway, Cotton Plant, and Mount Vernon-Enola. She loved to perform at the Hootenanny at the Stone County Courthouse years ago. Throughout the years, she performed at the Ozark Folk Center and eagerly joined in impromptu music around the Stone County Courthouse square, the Driftwood Barn, senior citizen centers, church revivals, and the Mountain View Gospel Opry. It was at the Opry on Thanksgiving Day where she performed “You’ll Never Walk Alone” prior to collapsing from the piano bench, never to recover. She was surrounded by friends and embracing her passions at the time of her unexpected death. Jean celebrated life and shared it with family and her ever-growing circle of friends. Because of her, we will never walk alone, and she will never leave our hearts.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Mary Hines of Newnata.
She is survived by her daughters: Deanna Younger of Carlsbad, New Mexico; Lisa Davis and husband Jackie of Bergman, Arkansas; Melissa Schubert of Batesville, Arkansas; and son, David Barnes of Wamego, Kansas. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Cody Passmore, Garrett Passmore, Jennifer Barnes, Richard Barnes, Stephanie Barnes, Leslie Barnes, Will Davis, Josh Davis, Victor Schubert, and Jackson Schubert.
