Blake "Bo" Hinds, 24, of Burlington died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010, in St. Clair County, Ill.

Born Nov. 25, 1986, in Des Moines, he was the son of Bradford L. Hinds and Monica Grinnell.

Mr. Hinds served as a lance corporal in the Marine Corps beginning in 2008. He served one tour in Afghanistan in 2009 and was currently attached to weapons company 2/8 as a mortarman in Camp Lejeune, N.C. He received the following awards: Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with Combat V, Combat Action Ribbon, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the NATO Medal-ISAF Afghanistan. He was a second-class combat survival swimmer, rifle marksman and Marine Corps Martial Arts tan belt.

He graduated from Burlington High School in 2005, and attended Indian Hills Community College for two years and Southeastern Community College for one year.

Survivors include his father of Burlington; his mother, Carrie Hand of Burlington; his biological mother of Des Moines; one half sister, Stefani Grinnell of Des Moines; one half brother, Travis Grinnell of Des Moines; and his grandparents, Nancy Barra of Houston, Dolores Ross of Burlington, Don and Truly Judisch of West Des Moines and Carolyn and Ben Hinds of Badger.

He was preceded in death by one grandfather.

Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today at Burlington Memorial Auditorium, East Banquet Room.

The funeral with military rites for Mr. Hinds will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Burlington Memorial Auditorium, East Banquet Room with Sam Jennison officiating. The body will be cremated following the funeral. Burial will be at a later date.

A memorial has been established. Prugh Funeral Service in Burlington is in charge of arrangements.
