Our sweet mama and grandma peacefully passed away on the morning of August 22, 2011 due to causes incident to age.

She was born October 30, 1929 in Salt Lake City to Nancy Izetta Miner and George Oliverson Daley, the youngest of five.

After graduating from East High School in 1947, she moved to Port Arthur, TX, where she attended Port Arthur College, held various secretarial jobs and served in the National Secretaries Association helping the underprivileged which gave her an opportunity to model in style shows.

After living in Port Charles LA, San Antonio and Houston, she returned to Salt Lake in 1957. She then met Howard Daynes Hinckley, and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple in 1958.

Charlene was known for her exuberant personality, her loyalty and commitment to friends and family, and her strength and courage to face any task.

Never one to procrastinate, she was always on top of the many responsibilities she and Howard shared as small business owners and landlords to multiple rental units. She took great pride in her home and loved to cook and entertain.

Very service oriented, she was always thinking of how she could help others within her community and beyond. She was actively involved in PTA (serving twice as president), political campaigns, and held many various LDS church callings, mostly in the Relief Society.

In her later years she became an active member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She also held a license in real estate.

Ever devoted to family, she had a special relationship with her grandchildren helping to raise them and derived much pleasure from their company.

She is survived by her daughter Dayna Atherley, son Brent, grandchildren Adam and Alexandera Atherley, sister Helen Nelson, and many nieces and nephews.

Mama, you are free! We love you eternally and look forward to being with you again. Thank you for being our blessed mother. We are forever grateful!

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the Forestview Ward Chapel, 1111 East Charlton (2818 South), Salt Lake City, UT, with a viewing held prior from 9:30-10:40 a.m. in the Relief Society room.
Interment will be in the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
