Essa May Hinchman was born May 28, 1873, near Quincy, Kansas. She was the youngest of six children born to G. S. and Elizabeth Hinchman. She was united in marriage to T. J. McConnaughey Oct. 28, 1891.
To this union two children were born, Leo Grover, of Ottawa, Kan., and Thomas Dare, of Quincy. She leaves these sons, her husband, two grandchildren, one brother, Josiah Hinchman of Emporia, a large number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives, besides many friends.
On August 28, 1939, at the age of 60 years and 3 motnhs, she slipped away to be with Him who has been her source of comfort and strength all of her life. Her great wish for her family and friends was that they may have the faith and trust in God that she had, not only to make this world better, but to insure an unbroken circle in the world to come.
Mrs. McConnaughey was an unusually versatile person. In addition to rearing her family, caring for her home, assisting her husband in many ways with his work, she found time to paint and write. She had high ideals and spent her time and energy in living up to them.
Funeral services were held in the U. B. Church, conducted by Rev. Prather. Burial was in the Virgil Cemetery.
