MRS. BARNES DIES
Pneumonia Fatal to Well Known Resident
Mrs. Edith May Hill Barnes, 64, wife of John Barnes, retired Katy conductor, a resident of Parsons all her life, died at 3:46 o'clock this morning at Mercy hosiptal, from pneumonia, after an attempt to save her life with an oxygen tent was of no avail.
Mrs. Barnes awoke early Saturday morning suffering with a chill, Mr. Barnes said. Apparently she was in good health when she retired Friday night, but became steadily worse and Sunday was taken to Mercy hospital, where she was placed under the oxygen tent Wednesday. She was believed to be somewhat improved yesterday.
Mrs. Barnes was born in Rutland, Vt.; and came to Parsons when she was six months old with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin L. Hill. They made their home at 1724 Corning and following her marriage on June 18, 1893 at St. Patrick's church here, she and Mr. Barnes made their home at the same address where they lived since that time.
She is survived by her husband, two sons, Harold H. Barnes, Salina and Vernon Barnes, 1301 Morgan, who is manager of the American Service Company; one sister, Mrs. Gertrude Heath, Wichita; and one brother, Edward L. Hill, Sapulpa, Ok.
Harold Barnes arrived in Parsons this morning from Washington, D. C., where he had been on business. He missed an airplane from Washington which would have arrived in Parsons before Mrs. Barnes' death. Mrs. Harold Barnes has been here for some time.
The body will lie in state at the Carson funeral home until 5 o'clock Sunday afternoon, when it will be taken to the Barnes home. Funeral services will be held at 9 o'clock Monday morning at St. Patrick's church with the Rev. Fr. A. H. Walsh officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet cemetery.
Members of the St. Patrick's altar society will meet at 7 o'clock tonight at the Carson funeral home to recite the Rosary.
