Goldia E. Brammer, 96, of Gifford, passed away peacefully Friday, Dec. 12. 2003, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston with her family present.
She was born April 18, 1907, in Johnson, Wash., to Joseph Franklin and Phoebe Florence Summers Hill. She was the sixth of 12 children. They lived in Gifford. When she was five, the family moved to Cutbank, Mont. After two years, they returned to Gifford.
She attended the Black and Blewett Elementary Schools near Gifford through the eighth grade. She attended Gifford High School and was the first carnival queen and also a star center basketball player.
She married Otto W. Brammer July 7, 1924, and lived on a farm near Gifford the rest of her life, stating once that Gifford was too big for her.
Goldia was a very hard working woman and was an early riser all of her life. She enjoyed good health and was able to remain in her home until a few days before her death.
She planted big gardens and loved to can fruit and vegetables. She was a Sunday School teacher for many years, was active in the Women of the Church of Good Hope Lutheran Church, and made lots of quilts and afghans. She gave an afghan to each of her children and grandchildren. she also loved to play the piano and organ.
Goldia was a wonderful wife, mother and friend. She will be in our hearts forever. We are thankful to have had her to love and enjoy for so many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sept. 9, 1995; three sisters; and six brothers.
She is survived by one son, George F. Brammer and wife Jackie of Gifford; and three daughters, Louise Varunok and husband Alex of Mesa, Ariz., Donna Ockert and husband Clayton of Aloha, Ore., and Marjorie McCoy of Boise; a brother and sister, Sheldon Hill and wife Clara and Dollie Emerson and husband Calvin, both of Lewiston; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Good Hope Lutheran Church in Gifford. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Good Hope Lutheran Church Memorial Fund. Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home in Lewiston is in charge of arrangements.
