Death of Mrs. Cal Burnett
Mrs. Cal Burnett died at the home of her son, Press Burnett, near town Tuesday morning, Dec 24, at 3:30 o'clock. She suffered a stroke of paralysis December 9, which with her extreme age caused her death. Funeral services were conducted at White Rose cemetery Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock by Reverends Wm Dawson and H.P. Davis, after which the remains were tenderly laid to rest in the family burial ground in that beautiful cemetery.
Mrs. Cal Burnett, nee Susan A Hill, was born in Middle Tennessee Aug 9, 1833. She moved with her parents to Mississippi when seven years of age and then to Smith County, Tx when 13 yrs old. Afterwards she moved to Harrison county. She was married to Mr Cal Burnett Dec 13, 1851 at the age of 19 and moved to this community where she resided until death, having lived with her aged husband 61 years and 11 days when she was called to her heavenly home. She, with her husband at an early age joined the Cumberland Presbyterian church at Cedar Grove and has lived a devoted Christian life ever since. She was a good and faithful wife, a devoted and indulgent mother, and greatly beloved by all with whom she came in contact.
Mrs. Burnett is survived by her husband, nine children, Sam Burnett, Mrs AE Wilson, Press Burnett, Mrs RA Wilson of Longview, HJH Burnett of Big Springs, Mrs. ME Dean of Arkansas, Mrs CH Roberts, Lum Barnett and Mrs Ed Matthews of Dallas, one brother James Hill of Okemah, OK, one sister Mrs Mary Ann Crow, fifty-seven grandchildren and fifty-six great grandchildren.
