Long Period of Invalidism Terminates Fatally for Mother of Dr. William A. Graham-Funeral This Morning From the Residence.

At the home of her son on West Seventh street, after several years of frail health, Mrs. Joseph Graham died yesterday morning at 4 o'clock. During the past month her condition had gradually but steadily grown more serious and it had been realized for some time that the end was not far distant.

Mrs. Graham was 73 years of age, having been born in Hillsboro July 11, 1838. Before marriage she was Miss Elizabeth Hill, being the daughter of the late Thomas Blount Hill and Maria Simpson. On October 26, 1859, she was married in Hillsboro to Dr. Joseph Graham, son of Governor William Graham and Susan Washington. The outbreak of the civil war occurred two years after their wedding and Dr. Graham cast in his lot with the Confederacy, as lieutenant of Charlotte Battery. At the close of the war he located in Gaston county near Mount Hilly. In 1869 he moved to Charlotte and became associated in practice with Dr. Johnstone Jones. On August 12, 1907, Dr. Graham died.

Surviving Mrs. Graham are one son, Dr. William A. Graham of this city and one daughter, Mrs. George Fitzsimmons of Buffalo, N.Y., who has been here for a number of weeks. Mrs. Bessie Graham Maclean, who was Mrs. Graham's eldest child, died several years ago. There were tow sons also, Thomas Hill and Josephe Graham, Jr., who are deceased. Two sisters, Miss Rebecca Hill and Mrs. Alice Webb of Hillsboro suvive. Mrs. Webb had been at the bedside of her sister for the past month.

In the death of Mrs. Graham, a consecrated Christian of true nobility of life and character has gone to her reward. A life-long member of St. Peter's Episcopal church, she was intensely loyal to its every interest and aided in its work in every possible way. The unselfishness and pure devotion of her home life made it one of unusual lovliness. Her memory will be treasured by many who know her high worth.

The funeral will be conducted this morninat at 11 o'clock from the home, No. 15 West Seventh street, by Rev. Harris Mallickrodt, rector of St. Peter's Episcopal church, and interment will occur at Elmwood.

Mrs. Graham's son-in-law, Mr. Joseph Maclean of Atlanta, arrived Monday. Others who will attend the funeral are Maj. John W. Graham of Hillsboro, Judge A. W. Graham of Oxford, Maj. William A. Graham of Raleigh, and son, Mr. Joseph Grahm, and daughter, miss Ellen Graham; Mr. Cheshire Webb of Hillsboro, Mrs. Montague Clark of the county and Miss May Sue Kirkland, a cousin, of the faculty of the State Normal College.

The pall-bearers will be Dr. M. A. Bland and Messrs. J. L. Chambers, Herlot Clarkson, D. P. Hutchison, A. L. Smith and W. H. Twitty.
