Barbara Jean Ballard, 72 years old, of KCMO passed away Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at Kansas City Hospice House after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. She was born on May 14, 1938 in Hutchinson, KS to Edgar and Georgia Hildebrand and moved to Kansas City, Missouri in 1939. She attended Paseo High School. While working at her first job, the Forum Cafeteria at 1212 Main St., she met her husband of 54 years, TJ Ballard. Barbara and TJ were united in marriage on February 28, 1956. She worked several years at TWA in the early 60's. Barbara and TJ owned the Nashua General Store in Kansas City, Missouri from 1976-1988 where they loved being part of the community. One of her favorite jobs later in life was working at Best Buy. Barbara was a proud member of Antioch Community Church, Heart of America Coachman RV Club, and KC Coachman RV Club. Several years ago Barbara and her husband enjoyed being members of the Ramblers Square Dance club. Throughout the years she enjoyed bowling. Barbara will be deeply missed and remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and as a very dear and special friend to all who knew her. Her passion for life never let her give up in her battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband TJ Ballard, of Kansas City, Missouri; daughter Terry Parrott, son Gary Ballard, daughter and son- in-law Judy and Tom Revenaugh, all of Kansas City, Missouri; sister and brother-in-law Shirley and Charles Watkins, of Gladstone, Missouri; 3 grandchildren Tyee Parrott, Nick Ballard and Jerry Revenaugh, 1 great grandchild Heidi Ballard, all of Kansas City, Missouri; and a very special lifelong friend Eleanor Hendricks. God saw you getting tired And a cure was not to be So He put His arms around you And whispered "Come with me" With tearful eyes We watched you suffer and Saw you fade away. Although we loved you dearly, We could not make you stay A golden heart stopped beating. Hard working hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove, He only takes the best. Visitation will be Saturday, July 10th from 10:00-11:30 a.m. at Antioch Community Church 4805 N. Antioch Road, Kansas City, MO 64119, a service celebrating Barbara's life will follow at 11:30 a.m. The family would like to thank Dr. Julia Chapman, her staff and everyone at KU that cared for Barbara during her journey with ovarian cancer.
