Helen Frances Burris, 93, Nevada, MO died Saturday, January 7, 2012, at Moore-Few Care Center in Nevada following a lengthy illness. She was born January 19, 1918 in Coffeyville, KS to James M. Highley and Anna Mae Wickam Highley. She was married to Leon Jones and he preceded her in death in 1977. She then married Claud Burris on February 21, 1979 and he preceded her in death May 29, 2001.
Mrs. Burris came to Vernon County at the age of seven and attended school in Montevallo, MO. She lived in Nevada most all of her life. She operated a day care in Nevada for 40 years until her retirement. She attended the Methodist church in Montevallo.
Survivors include two daughters, Donna Hulse, Bronaugh, MO, and Frances Decker and her husband Rex, Versailles, MO; seven grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 22 great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Norman Highley, Nevada, MO; three sisters, Virginia Sumerville, Linwood, KS, Marjorie Turner, Montevallo, MO, and Evelyn Oliver, Seattle, WA; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one great-grandson Ian Markley, one brother and several half- brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 11, 2012, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO with Elder Bobby Budd officiating. Interment will follow at Milo Cemetery, Milo, MO.
Friends may call now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada, and the family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 10, 2012, between 7:00 and 8:00 p.m.
