Hattie Pearl Hicks Ashworth was born the 2nd of ten children to Robert S. J. Hicks and Annie Laura Grimes of Willow Grove, Texas. Pearl earned a Nursing degree and was a Registered Nurse. She married Ernesto Vasquez Ashworth on 26 February 1921 in Dallas, Dallas Co, TX. Ernest was a painter, furniture craftsman, and an interior decorator.

Their 1st child was a daughter, Barbara Ernestine Ashworth b.15 Jan 1922. Four years later on 20 Mar 1926, Pearl gave birth to twin boys, Billy Austin Ashworth and Jack Houston Ashworth.

The family lived early on in Dallas moving to other areas of Texas as Ernest pursued his interior decorating career. The family bought a home in Longview, Tx where the children attended the majority of their school years. As World War II raged in Europe and the Pacific, Pearl & Ernesto's children became affected like so many other families. Both Bill & Jack joined the U.S. Navy as did their brother-in-law Weldon Hatten. All went off to war and were among the fortunate one's to return. However, duing that tragic time of war, the Ashworth family suffered yet another pull at their heart strings. Pearl was diagnosed with cancer and passed away while her boys were serving in Pacific Theater of the War.

Pearl Hicks Ashworth, according to her children, was a devoted wife, mother, and Christian. She taught her children from the Holy Bible. Her sister, Christine told of the comforting touch that my grandmother, Pearl, had in her hands as she attended all those she served.
