"BURIAL OF JOHN H. HICK
John Henry Hick, who died at Healdsburg on May 12th from hemorrhage of the brain, was buried from the O'Keefe Chapel in Placerville at 2 o'clock last Tuesday afternoon.
It had been the request of Mr. Hick that California Grove No. 1, U.A.O.D., of which order he had been a member since 1898, conduct the services. The impressive Druidic funeral service was read by Marshall Hughes, N.A., and Mrs. S. H. Rantz and A. S. Fox sang several appropriate hymns.
Mr. Hick was a native of New York, 60 years of age, and will probably be remembered by many in this city, where he and his family resided for several years during the nineties, and where he conducted a barber shop in the building now occupied by C. W. Ball.
He leaves a wife and three daughters – Mrs. C. E. Borden, of Spokane, Wash.; Mrs. Kate Morse and Mrs. Violett Leonard, of Healdsburg. Mrs. Borden accompanied the remains to Placerville. On account of her being delayed five days by washouts on the railroad, the burial was postponed from Friday to Tuesday.
The following Druids of California and the El Dorado Groves acted as pallbearers: H.L. Thails, Warren Larken, Wm. Griggs, D.D. Marks, Richard Reed, Alexis Revaz.
