Robert Franklin Heywood, 83, of Bena, retired county surveyor, died on Saturday August 8, 1964 in a local nursing home following a short illness.
Mr. Heywood served as deputy surveyor of Gloucester County from 1907 for a period of three years. He was then named surveyor for the County serving in that capacity until his retirement in 1963. He also worked as a private surveyor.
Prior to 1904 he was county constable and at one time served as a member of Abingdon District School Board.
He was a member of Union Baptist Church and the Men's Bible Class and served on the Board of Deacons at Union for many years.
At the time of his death Mr. Heywood was the oldest member of Achilles Lodge No. 81, AF & AM having served as a past master. he was also a member of Sioux Tribe No. 9 Improved Order of Red Men, Achilles.
His survivors include a niece, Mrs. Kathleen Cover of Farmville, and three nephews, A. Snead Goodwin of Baltimore, Dr. Franklin H. Goodwin of Dublin, Ga., and James B. Goodwin Jr., of Tampa, Fla.
