Mary Elizabeth Billingsley Hewitt was the daughter of Elijah Billingsley (1818-1870) and Nancy Mullins Billingsley (b. 1819). She married George Leggette Hewitt in 1875. She died in Los Angeles while visiting her older son Edgar Gaines Hewitt (1882-1946), and her body was returned to Birmingham for burial next to her husband. Her grave was never marked.
