Walter F. Heun, 72, of Fort Dodge, died Tuesday, January 4, 2011, at Careage.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 8, at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel with the Rev. John Sersland officiating. Military honors will be presented by the V.F.W. Post No 1856. The visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the Gunderson Funeral Home. Cremation rites will follow the visitation at the Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Memorials may be directed to the discretion of the family.
Walter is survived by his wife Joan; his children, Bill (Lori) Heun, Manson; Roxanne (John) Kielas, Apple Valley, MN; Tricia (Eric) Larson, Fort Dodge; Dawn (Ken) Stwalley, Kansas City, MO; 11 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and two sisters, Eileen Nelson and Betty (R.T. 'Roland') Conlon. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Dorothy and Alice.
Walter Frank Heun, the son of Albert and Charlotte (Lyon) Heun, was born April 28, 1938, in Fort Dodge. He attended schools in Fort Dodge, Pioneer and Manson. Walter served in the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1959. On October 14, 1958, Walter was united in marriage to Joan Stone at St. Joseph's Church at Barnum. Walter was a lifelong farmer.
Walter enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time outdoors. He loved traveling, spending winters in Texas and he was known for his sense of humor. Walter especially treasured time spent with his family.
