Elizabeth Wiggins Chamberlain of Benton, Pa., formerly of West Chester
Elizabeth (Herring) Wiggins Chamberlain, 88, of Cemetery Hill Road, Benton, died Friday morning, February 24, 2012 at the Bonham Nursing Center in Register, where she had been a resident since January 31st. She had been in ill health for the past several months.
Born July 5, 1923 in Bloomsburg, she was a daughter of the late Clinton and Jessie (Fleckenstine) Herring.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert L. Wiggins in 1972. On April 26, 1986 she married her second husband, Robert D. Chamberlain.
She was a 1941 graduate of the former Orangeville Vocational High School and a 1945 graduate of Hood College in Maryland. Mrs. Chamberlain had previously lived in Orangeville and West Chester. She was a tax collector and worked for various family businesses while living in West Chester. She was a homemaker in West Chester where she raised her two children. She was involved in her Church, Westminster Presbyterian Church where she was a Sunday school teacher. She was also involved in local politics and especially enjoyed entertaining friends at her home.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, Robert, are her two children; Dorothy W. Winther and her husband, Peter, of Benton and Robert C. Wiggins and his wife, Mary Ann, of West Chester; four grandchildren, Clinton Wiggins and his wife, Rachel, Bradford Wiggins, Robert N. Wiggins and Stephen Winther. Also surviving are three step-children, Robert D. Chamberlain, Jr., David Chamberlain, Mark Chamberlain and five step-grandchildren. In addition to her first husband, Robert L. Wiggins, she was preceded in death by a half sister, Dorothy Greenway.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Saturday, March 3, at the Orangeville United Methodist Church, 402 Mill Street, Orangeville, with the Rev. Darwin C. Goshorn, officiating.
Burial will be in the Laurel Hill Cemetery, Orangeville.
A visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of service at noon, on Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Orangeville United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 184, Orangeville, PA 17859.
