RALEIGH: Hilda Frances Campen, 68, was relieved of her responsibilities on our earth to come home with our Savior, Jesus Christ in the early morning of June 4, 2008. Jesus called out her name and said, "Hilda, enough suffering, it is time to come home and be well." Hilda did not want to leave behind all those that love her, however, she knew one day she would greet each with open loving arms…so she let go.

Hilda was born in Fremont, NC to Cecil Lee and Alma Lee Herring and was the older sister to Neal Herring. While going to school to become a registered nurse, she by chance met her husband, Robert and they fell in love and married, for nearly forty-seven years. Hilda and Robert raised three children, Robert, Terry Lynn "Terilyn" and Chris in a Christian home and as a close family to ensure each was brought up with the highest of ethical standards and love.

Hilda is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil L. Herring. She is survived by her loving husband, Robert O. Campen, Sr., her three children, Robert O. Campen, Jr. and wife, Susan of Apex, Terilyn C. de'Marsi and husband Michael, and Christopher Lee as well as her grand children, Andrew, Ethan, Michelle, Robbie, Joe. Hilda loved her grandchildren with all of her heart and was happiest when spending time with each. Her greatest love; however, was the bond and respect shared between herself and her loving husband, Robert. Robert was a devoted husband that should be proud of himself as we know his children are for being there for Hilda through all these years.

Hilda was awarded and recognized for her tireless and endless hours of volunteer services through serving our country during Robert's career in the USAF and on the board of many charities, serving as a Sunday School Teacher, and volunteer leader. She was recognized by Gov. Hunt and Gov. Mike Easley and received the Gold Leaf award for her continuous services to serve our senior citizens by providing and donating her time and funds to have bands, dances and food served to brighten the life of a senior. Hilda also served many years at Rex Healthcare as a volunteer to hundreds and enjoyed helping others. We are proud of her accomplishments, compassionate heart and for being so strong to be here while she could to watch over her family and friends that she loved so much.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 7th at Mitchell Funeral Home (7209 Glenwood Avenue) from 10-11 AM; with services at 11:00 am. A brief graveside service will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park. Hilda loved all her friends and family being together; please join us for her services to celebrate her life.

Special heart felt thank you to Ms. Debra Jones for keeping our Mother company.
