Mrs. Catherine Herring died at her home near Nortonsville April 29, 1932, after a long illness. She expired while seated in a chair. She was born March 2, 1854, and was aged 78 years, 1 month and 27 days.
She was married to John Herring Feb. 13, 1878. From this union there were seven children, six of whom survived. Those she leaves to mourn for her loss are her last husband John Herring, two sons, George Herring of Stony Point, and Bernard Herring of Earlysville and four daughters, Mrs. Jannie Davis, of Free Union; Mrs. Alice Herring of Nortonsville; Mrs. Annie Hensley, of Afton and Miss Fannie Herring, at home; also a goodly number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Her funeral service took place at her home May 1, conducted by Rev. L. P. Bland. The active pallbearers were: Messrs. James Herring, Robert Davis, Erman, Moses and Orbert Davis and Sylvester Herring.
The flower-bearers were: Misses Helen Marshall, Sadie Hensley and Gertie Davis Mrs. Nealie Powell and Messrs. Clarence Herring (of Charlottesville) and Otis, Lee and Vernie Herring. She was laid to rest in Chester Grove churchyard followed by a goodly number of relatives and friends.
Mrs. Herring was a member of the Methodist Church. She lived in and around Nortonsville all of her life. She was highly regarded and had a host of friends. The family wish to thank all her neighbors and friends for their kindness during her long illness.
