Our family wishes to celebrate and honor the life of Dallas Conrad Herring and with sadness acknowledge his death on Jan. 5, 2009, at the age of 74. Formerly of Lost Acres in Weyers Cave, Va., he resided at Harrisonburg Health and Rehab Center in Harrisonburg for the past four months before his death.
On Dec. 2, 1954, he married Shirley Mae Spitzer, who survives and resides at Lost Acres in Weyers Cave, Va. He is also survived by his daughter, Gale Herring Coffey of Weyers Cave, and his son, Kurt Conrad Herring and wife, Lisa, of Bridgewater. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Haley Katlyn Herring, Hannah Ashlyn Herring, Harrison "Chase" Herring and Holly Elizabeth Herring, whom he loved with all his heart.
He is survived by six siblings, Charles Nelson Herring, Eunice Shifflett, Helen Bryant, Margie Miller, Beverly Sandy, and Jane Garber.
He was a skilled, respected business professional devoted to his career in the manufactured housing industry. As founder and president of Golden Rule Homes Inc., he devoted his time to the organizations that governed and provided advocacy to the manufactured housing community. He was appointed by the governor of Virginia in 1992 and served as the Vice Chairman of the Virginia Manufactured Board from April 1, 1992-March 31, 1996. He was Chairman from June 19, 1996-Jan. 20, 1999. He was a member of the Virginia Manufactured Housing Association and received the Hall of Fame Award in 1992 as well as awards for excellence in service in 1993 and 1995. He was a member of BPOE 450.
There will be a graveside service at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Joe Hagenlocker at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens. There will be no public viewing. Friends may call anytime at the home of Kurt C. Herring, 311 Melvin Circle, Bridgewater, Va.
