Mike was survived by his son Michael E. Herrera Jr.; brother Dennis Herrera (wife Grace); sisters: Connie Peña, Pita Ortiz (husband Tony), and Cleo Gutierrez (husband Wilfred); grandchildren: Monique Vigil, Kevin Herrera and Patrick; numerous nieces: Bernadette Herrera, Ana Herrera, Victoria Herrera, Lori Herrera, Danielle Herrera, Stephanie Peña, Claudine Peña, Lisa Gutierrez, and Carmella Gutierrez; nephews: Troy Herrera, Brian Peña, Joe Gutierrez, Lawrence Gutierrez, Ron Gutierrez, Adam Ortiz, and John Ortiz.
Mike was a beloved father, brother, uncle, and friend. He was very adventuresome in his younger days. He loved to go hunting with his dad, his Tio Joe, and his Tio Ben. He also liked to go hunting with his brother Dennis. He worked as a latherer for many years. He was jack of all trades. He could lay ceramic tile, build fire places and frame homes to mention a few things. He was also a very good carpenter and a sheetrock installer. He would joke around and enjoy his guitar playing. He got together with friends and they would play the guitar and sing Spanish music for hours. He was a very good dancer. He was a lover of animals, especially dogs and horses. He loved anything to do with old country customs and traditions. He enjoyed horseback riding a lot but most of all he was a faithful reader of the Bible. He would put on his glasses to read and point out passages in the bible that related to us getting to heaven and also about being very forgiving. He read frequently and believed in the Word.

Mass of Christian burial was on 6 Sept 2014 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Pojoaque. Burial followed in El Rancho Catholic Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers: Troy Herrera, Joe Gutierrez, Lawrence Gutierrez, Ron Gutierrez, Brian Peña, Eli Salazar, Levi Salazar, Ralph Salazar, John Ortiz, Adam Ortiz, Clyde Martinez and Ramon Baros.
