The oldest of six generations and beloved to all that she knew in her life, Alice was born April 3, 1912 in Anson, Texas to John Samuel and Beula Vivian (Sims) Herndon. Her bright blue eyes and whit would light up your day when you least expected. The sky was the limit for her and she reached high to experience all that she loved. Alice loved to travel, loved reading and cooking as well as being a business woman. She had a natural flare for fashion which she loved, working in the retail industry for years and eventually opening her own children's clothing boutique in 1959. Alice was a past member of "America's Business Women's Association", "The League of Women's Voters" and "The Extension Homemakers".
She married Ottie Sellers in 1930. To this union were born, Betty Louise and Bobby Sue. After the death of Otis, she married Cleo McEwen in 1965, who became the grandfather we all loved. After the death of Cleo in 1991, she met and married Joshua Bristow in 1993 in Big Spring, Texas where they lived until his death. She then moved to Houston where she lived for the last ten years of her life.
Even though she became bedridden for the past seven years, the love and memories that we shared cannot be replaced. We are blessed to have had you, Grandmother, and will always cherish all the wonderful times, many of which were very funny.
Grandmother, there will never be words to describe what you meant to us, "We Love You".
She is preceded in death by her parents, daughters, Betty Louise Watts and Bobby Sue Tucker; sisters, Velma Mae, Martha Zellerine; brothers, Melvin Franklin, Lyle Samuel, Jasper L., Leo Larkin; granddaughter, Alice Ruth Watts; grandsons, Richard Watts, Shane Watts.
She leaves to cherish eight grandchildren, Nelda Parr, Randall Watts (and wife, Karen), Kathryn Powell, DeAnn Vecchio (and husband, Mario), Annette Chumbe (and husband, Gerson), John Fowler (and wife, Jean), Philip Mauldin (and wife Connie), Debra Mitchell; 25 great grandchildren, 32 great-great grandchildren, two great-great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephew's, cousins and extended family.
Family visitation will be Friday, February 6, 2009 from 5-7 p.m. at Adams-Graham Funeral Home, 732 Ave I, Anson, Texas.
