Birth: Dec. 28, 1919
Death: Aug. 30, 1993

Anchorage Daily News September 2, 1993

Longtime Palmer resident Doris June Hermon Fritz, 73, died Aug. 30 in Wasilla after a brief battle with cancer. A memorial service was held at the United Protestant Presbyterian Church of 1,000 Trees in Palmer with Pastor Tim Carrick and Pastor Henry Guinotte officiating. A pot-luck gathering of family and friends to celebrate her life was held at the Palmer Moose Lodge.

Born Dec. 28, 1919, in Lawrence, Ind., she had worked as a clerk in retail sales. Her family said, "She lived her life for her children and grandchildren. Family and neighbors enjoyed the chocolate chip and peanut butter cookies that she baked weekly. Doris had a green thumb and grew beautiful plants, many of which she gave away to other people. Considered by all to be a genuine 'sweetheart,' she would do anything she could for any person or animal in need."

Mrs. Fritz is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Carol of Wasilla, and Bob and Faun of Capitan, N.M.; her daughter, Lori Tandeske of Palmer; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Fritz and Lorraine Hermon, Ben and Eve Hermon, Jim and Marianne Hermon, George and Donna Hermon, and Neil and Kathy Hermon, all of Palmer; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and many other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon "Bud" Fritz in 1972; her son, Gordon "Buddy" Fritz in 1990; her brother, Tommy Hermon in 1993; and her sister, Betty Onkka in 1978. Her cremated remains were scattered over Lazy Mountain. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be directed to the American Cancer Society, Mat-Su Unit, P.O. Box 431, Palmer, 99645; or to Hospice of Mat-Su, 950 E. Bogard Road, Suite 111, Wasilla 99687. Arrangements were by Kehl's Palmer Mortuary.
