Betty Jane Armstrong, age 56 of Charleston, passed away in the presence of her loving family on Saturday, June 24, 2006 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center after battling cancer. She fought this disease hard for the past six years, but accepted the end of her earthly life with grace, peace and her wonderful sense of humor.

Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive in Charleston, will host Memorial Services honoring and celebrating her life on Thursday (June 29) at 6:00 p.m. with Reverend Bill Boaz officiating. Private family Inurnment will be in Roselawn Cemetery, Charleston. There will be no Visitation.

Betty was born January 29, 1950 in Charleston, the youngest daughter of William L. Herman and Madeleine Mannin.
In 1970 she married Jess Thomason - a marriage which ended in divorce.
She later was united in marriage to Roger Armstrong on May 24, 1982.
She is survived by Roger, her loving and supportive husband of twenty-four years; two sons, Keith Thomason and his wife Jill of Webster City, Iowa and Chris Thomason of Charleston; a daughter, Tonya Thomason of Charleston; two stepchildren, Ashley Armstrong and Justin Armstrong, both of Charleston; a very special granddaughter, Abbie Renee Thomason of Webster City; her father, William Herman of Charleston; two sisters, Pat Hill and her husband Bob and Joy Cook, all of Charleston; and several nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind two canine companions, Cayenne and Heaven, whom she loved immensely.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Madeleine Herman and her grandparents, Boone Mannin and Anna (Pieratt) Mannin, Charles Herman and Martha (Stoner) Herman, Wetzel.
One of Betty's most important achievements was receiving her bachelor's degree from Eastern Illinois University. She accomplished this while raising a family and working at Eastern. A few years were spent in the Sociology and Anthropology Department, but most of her thirty years at Eastern Illinois University was in the Office of Financial Aids, a position she retired from in 2002.
Betty was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend. She was appreciated by all who knew her for her sense of humor, her kindness, her generosity, and the way she cared for others. In these past few years, one of her greatest joys was spending time with her precious granddaughter. Betty looked forward to the summers and Abbie's arrival as she usually stayed a couple of weeks. Everyone will treasure their own memories of Betty to share with others and to lend comfort in the days and weeks ahead.
In lieu of flowers, Betty's family requests that memorials in her honor be made to the Sarah Bush Lincoln Cancer Center. Gifts may be left on the Memorial Table at the Services or mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL 61920.
