Elen Herde
Elen R. Herde, 88, Topeka, died Monday, Sept. 16, at a Topeka nursing home.
She was born July 27, 1914, in White City in Morris County, to Paul and Dora Prosser Holm. She spent her early life in Marshall County, where she attended Prairie Ridge rural scoll. She moved to Topeka in 1935 and worked for Seymour Foods, Jersey Ice Cream and American News.
She married Alfred "Dutch" Herde on May 1, 1955, in Lyndon. He died July 5, 1997.
Survivors include a brother, Dan Holm, Garnett; and a sister, Lois Dummermuth, Waterville.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Rochester Cemetery. Mrs. Herde will lie in state from 1 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Davidson Funeral Home, where visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
