Ruby E. Bishop, 73, of Laurel, passed away on Sunday, August 1, 2010, at University Hospital in Cincinnati where she had been a patient since July 25. She had been in failing health for the past several years.
She was born September 27, 1936, in Harrison, Ohio, the eldest of three daughters of Bert and Alice McQueen Hensley. She attended elementary school in Harrison and was a 1954 graduate of Bright High School in Bright. On February 18, 1956, she was married at the Smyrna Baptist Church in New Trenton to Henry Bishop, and they lived and farmed most of their married life in Franklin County. For thirty years, she was employed at Philco and its successors, FERCO and Visteon in Connersville, retiring in 1998. She was a member of the Garrison Creek Baptist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star at Metamora. She enjoyed camping and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include a daughter, Victoria Swininger and husband, Robert; a son, Richard Bishop and wife, Joy; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two sisters, Pearl Klusman and husband, Lloyd, of Batesville, and Blanche Hiler and husband, George, of Harrison, Ohio; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry, who died September 16, 2008, and her parents.
Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Tim Fluty at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 5, at the Garrison Creek Baptist Church, 5952 South Garrison Road, and burial will be in Laurel North Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 4 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 4. Memorial contributions may be made to the Garrison Creek Baptist Church.
