Andrew Fitch Hensey,D.D., husband of the late Alice (Ferrin) Hensey, brother of Vincent, Mrs. H.C.Mitchell of Bermuda, and Mrs. Hilda Hoopes, died April 21, 1951, in Lexington, Kentucky. Services were held at the Ebersold Funeral Home, 40 Tarbell St., Bedford, Ohio, Tuesday April 24.
The Rev. Mr. Hensey was born and raised in Bedford, Ohio. His career included many years as a missionary in the Belgian Congo. He was commended by the King of Belgium for his work with Congolese tribes. He returned to America and was a professor of African studies. He was noted for translating the New Testament into four Congo dialects.
His wife, Alice (Ferrin)Hensey, was a nationally known poet and French translator who served as a missionary with him. They married in Africa in 1907. (Bedford Cemetery Past and Present, Ralph Bell & Janet Caldwell, Bedford Historical Soc., 2007)
