Barbara (Andersen) Henry was raised in Naugatuck, Connecticut, where she lived out most of her life. Her father and mother were married in 1923; and by the end of the decade, they had become the proud parents of three daughters.

In the 1940s, Barbara Andersen met and married a young man who hailed from Rhode Island - Joseph W. Henry. The couple established themselves in Naugatuck, where they raised their two children (a daughter and a son); and in 1981, nearing their retirement years, Joe and Barbara sold their home and relocated to southern Maine.

Twelve years after their move, Barbara Henry passed away in Sanford at age 67. At the time of her death, she and Joe had been married for over 45 years; and he would survive his wife by nearly two decades. Barbara had been predeceased by her father (in 1966) and an elder sister, Patricia R. (Andersen) Hess [1924-1984] - whose son, N. Warren 'Pete' Hess III, became a well-known attorney in Naugatuck. Barbara was also survived by her mother, Thelma (Smith) Andersen, who passed away in 1999 at age 94 - and a younger sister, Thelma (Andersen) Kaufman [1928-2011].
