FARMINGTON – Diana Mary Hachey, 95, of Livermore Falls, died peacefully, surrounded by family, shortly after being admitted to Franklin Memorial Hospital, Farmington on the evening of Saturday, December 10, 2011. She was affectionately referred to as "Mother" by her family and friends.
She was born Sept. 11, 1916, in Riley, a daughter of Jeffrey and Helen (Maillet) Henry. She had held the honor of being the oldest person, born in the village of Riley. She was a 1935 graduate of Livermore Falls High School where she focused her studies on business courses.
Her work experiences were interesting and varied. As a young woman, she was employed at the Riverside Hotel in Livermore Falls, (currently the location of Livermore Falls Apartment complex on Main Street). She later was a chambermaid at Lakeshore in Livermore. Over the years she had been employed at the Glove Shop Factory, Livermore Shoe and at Berry Hill.
During WWII, on Feb. 16, 1942, she married Placide "Gerry" Hachey at Notre Dame in Worcester, Mass. Her family surprised she, and her husband of 67 years, in 2002, honoring them with a 60th anniversary party at the parish where they united in marriage. Diana was a lifelong communicant of St. Rose and lived her faith quietly and humbly.
She leaves one son, Dennis Hachey of Bangor; two daughters: Helen Souther and her husband, Clark, of Livermore Falls and Janice Hughes of Alexandria, Virginia; ten grandchildren: Russell Souther, Randall Souther, Ryan Souther, Carla Souther Lesko, Christie Souther Beliveau, Nicole Hughes Bozman, Michelle Hughes Sullivan, Jonathan Hughes, Bella and Meehka Hachey; 18 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Placide "Gerry" Hachey who passed on Sept. 7, 2008; daughter-in-law, Ruth Hachey; a son-in-law, Ronald Hughes; a granddaughter-in-law, Lisa Souther; and siblings: Leah Billings, Fred Henry and Edmund Henry.
Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Livermore Falls. (Wiles Remembrance Centers)
