Ruth was born at Woodbury in Hill County, Texas. She was a young red-headed school teacher when she married George Henry in a double wedding on June 7, 1924. The ceremony took place in Winters, Texas, along with her sister, Nina Jennings, and Leonard Wheat. Ruth had previously taught George's sister, Nellie, and brother, Oscar. George and Ruth had one daughter and one son. In 1946 Ruth, George and their son moved to Rockdale. Ruth worked at an egg plant; cooked in restaurants; clerked at Stricker's Variety Store (later bought by Winn's); and retired from Winn's. Ruth and George celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1974 with many relatives and friends attending. At one time, she was a member of the Eastern Star, and she was a member of a small Presbyterian church in Ballinger, Texas. Ruth was a resident at Sweetbriar Nursing Home in Taylor, Texas at the time of her death in Milam County, Texas.
