Obituary - Corsicana Daily Sun 27 Aug 1945

Pioneer Resident Corsicana Died at Home Early Monday
J M Henry, native of Alabama, had lived here 55 years
J M Henry, age 87 years, resident of Corsicana since 1890, died at his home here at
an early hour Monday morning. He was born in Pickens County, Alabama, April 29, 1858
and came to Texas with his parents when he was six years old. They settled in Leon County.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 5 o'clock from the First Methodist Church
with Rev. Erwin F Bohmfalk, pastor officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
He was married to Nannie Kellum Withers in Leon County, September 6, 1882, and they moved
to Corsicana Sept 1, 1890. Eight children were born to the union, four of whom survive.
They celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary Sept 6, 1932. Mrs Henry died several
years ago.
He was with the city street department here for many years. He was also active in church and
civic affairs. He joined the First Methodist Church in 1892 and was an active member until forced
to retire recently on account of ill health.
Surviving are a son, J W Henry, Dallas; three daughters, Mrs Cora Bosniack, Corsicana; Mrs Jack
Price, Corsicana; Mrs B E Phillips, Salt Lake City, Utah. Five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren
and other relatives.
Pallbearers will be J I Jackson, W Art Martin, A B Douglass, L T Griffin, Boyce Martin, and Jack
Megarity. Honorary pallbearers will be N F Garrett, W T Hipps, Rev N R Stone, Rev R W Nation,
E R Dawson, Guy Gibson, J F Hasiam, T L Carlisle, W R Waddell members of the Brotherhood
Bible Class and friends of the family.
McCammon Funeral Home is directing the arrangements.
