PEORIA, IL - Mother Willie Mae Dixon, 93, of Peoria, Ill., passed away at 7:33 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009, in the emergency room at Methodist Medical Center.
Mother Dixon was born on May 5, 1915, in Ripley, Tenn., to Charles and Cornellia Henning. She married Roosevelt Dixon in 1929 in Ripley, Tenn. He preceded her in death on Oct. 24, 2003.
Mother Dixon leaves to cherish her precious memory her loving family: one son, Samuel L. (Theda) Dixon Sr. of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; one daughter, Elaine Dixon of Peoria; four grandchildren, Samuel Dixon Jr. of Greenville, S.C., Pamela (Scott) Murphy and Mark Dixon, both of Columbus, Ohio, and Deidre Dixon of Peoria; three great-grandchildren, Timothy and Kacey Murphy, both of Columbus, Ohio, and Jever Dixon of Peoria; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and four sisters.
Mother Dixon was a member of Zion Baptist Church for more than 65 years, where she served on the mothers board, usher board and former choir member.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009, at her beloved church, with a visitation one hour prior beginning at 9 a.m. Pastor Samuel Duren will officiate. Mother Dixon will be entombed in Swan Lake Mausoleum.
