Marilynn O. Henkel-Briggs, age 70, of Helena passed away Sunday, Jan. 22, 2006, at St. Patrick’s Hospital in Missoula. Marilynn was born in Erie, N.D., April 22, 1935, to Raymond E. and Cecile (Kentfield) Henkel.
She received her grade school education in Mountain View, Calif., and Fargo, N.D., graduating from high school in Fargo in 1953. Marilynn attended North Dakota State University studying home economics. In Helena on Aug. 17, 1955, Marilynn and Donald L. Briggs were married.
Marilynn was a homemaker most of her adult life. Early in her life she worked as a bookkeeper, accounting clerk, decorator of store sales displays and a sales person for the old Helena Woolworth Store.
She enjoyed designing and sewing fashions, cake decorating, cooking, baking, collecting antiques, Hummels, Sebastian miniatures, Norman Rockwell, Incolay, decorating plates, crafting one-twelfth scale miniature furniture, restoring and decorating their 1888 Victorian Queen Anne home, playing electric organ, dulcimer, guitar and ukulele. She read nonfiction, and wrote verses and poetry. Marilynn enjoyed computers, designing greeting cards for family and friends and computer aided genealogical research. Most of all Marilynn loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She was a member of the American Lutheran Church, Past Guardian for Jobs Daughters Bethel #5, a member of the Josephine Hepner Chapter #89 Order of Eastern Star and a committee member of the Fargo High class reunion.
Marilynn was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband, Don of Helena; sons, Shawn L. (Nancy) Briggs, Monte R. (Kathy) Briggs and Damian R. Briggs; daughter, Darcie Ann Briggs-Henken, all of Helena; grandchildren, Josh Briggs, Jessie and Joey Briggs, Jason Henken, Jacob Henken and Jordan Henken.
A private family memorial gathering was held at the family home on Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2006. Retz Funeral Home was in care of her service arrangement.
