Allen M. Hendricks, age 83, of Eau Claire went to be with the Lord on Tuesday afternoon, November 1, 2011 at Dove Healthcare-West in Eau Claire following a courageous battle with cancer.
Al was born in Cassville, WI on September 7, 1928, the son of the late Cecil and Louella (Neisius) Hendricks.
At the age of 16, Al enlisted in the United States Navy. He served in the South Pacific from 1944 to 1946 and was recalled during the Korean War with the Navy Seabees in the Philippine Islands from 1950 to 1952. He was honorably discharged in 1952.
He drove truck for Dairymaid out of Eau Claire, Osterman Transfer and Neuendorf Transfer.
His hobbies included driving his dump truck, fishing, hunting, camping, socializing with friends, he enjoyed good food, sports and an occasional island cruise.
Al belonged to the YMCA for over 25 years and enjoyed the camaraderie. He was a past commander and life member of VFW Post 7232 of Eau Claire and a member of American Legion Post 53 of Eau Claire.
He married the former Carol Britten on May 16, 1992 in Eau Claire.
Survivors include his wife, Carol; a sister, Pat (Richard) Foiles; sister-in-law, Jenny Hendricks; his children, Connie (Dave) Davis, Allen, Donald (Ruth) and Virginia (Randal) Smith; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren (one coming); and one great-great-grandchild; stepchildren, Steven (Terri) Britten, Jeff and Chuck Britten; six step grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Joan (Keith) Gunn. He is further survived by other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death are his parents; a brother, Gordon; and a sister, Marvis Mae in infancy.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Zion Christian Fellowship (11555 35th Ave, Chippewa Falls, WI 54729) with Pastor Keith Gunn officiating.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of services at the church.
Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery (town of Washington) where full military honors will be provided by VFW Post 305.
