Sylvia Jane Hendley, daughter of Dr. Roy Hendley and Georgia Marie Brown Hendley.
Sylvia married Jule 18, 1963 in Florida, Wayne Best.
Sylvia graduated from Carson Newman College. She was a school teacher.
Her husband Wayne graduated from Alburn University, Alabama and worked for Boeing, he was an engineer. One of his projects was working on the Moon Rover and teaching the Astronaut's how to assemble it when they arrived on the Moon. Wayne being born in the south, lives up to the name "Southern Gentleman". Sylvia and Wayne, a wonderful couple.
Sylvia Hendley Best: Cocoa Beach, Florida
Sylvia Best, 75, died Thursday, Februart 16, 2012, from conditions caused by Vascular Dementia. She was under hospice critical care at an assisted living facility "Jacob's Ladder" in Cocoa Beach, Florida.
Sylvia Janice Hendley was born April 19, 1936 in Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee and grew up in the small town of Cross Plains, Tennessee, where her father was the town doctor.
She graduated from Carson-Newman College at Jefferson City, Tennessee in 1958, with her teaching degree in Elementary Education. Her first teaching job was for the 2nd grade children at Melbourne, Florida Elementary School from 1958 - 1965.
She married Boeing Engoneer, Donald Wayne Bestm in 1965, and then began teaching 2nd graders at Cocoa Beach Elementary School from 1965 - 1973.
She moved too Vandenberg, California and then to Seattle, Washington for a few years as the Boeing Company moved her spouse to various aerospace jobs. They returned to "Home Base" at Cocoa Beach to live out their retirement years.
Sylvia is survived by her husband of 46 years, two nephews in Madison, Wisconsin and a half-sister in Marion, North Carolina.
Afamily only, private service, was held in her room at the assisted living facilities immediately following her death.
Cremation will be done and her cremated remains will be scattered by her husband in an area that she much enjoyed during her teaching years.
She would like to be remembered as trying to be the best teacher that she could be for her 15 classes of children.
Beckman-Williamson Funeral Home handled final arrangements, Cocoa Beach, Florida.
