Eliza J. Henderson, daughter of M.S. and Mary Galeener, was born in Warren Co, Ohio, Nov. 18th, 1838, and died, April 6th, 1893; aged 54 years, 4 months and 18 days.
She was converted and untied with the M.E. church in her 15th year and lived a devoted christian life up to the time of her death.
She moved with her parents to Darke County, Ohio, where she was married to Mr. A. Henderson, Dec 24th 1856. In 1865 she with her husband and family moved to Illinois and settled near Vermillion, in Edgar Co. In 1885she, with husband and daughter moved to Chrisman, Ill., where she lived at the time of her death.
The deceased leaves behind her a husband, four children, all grown, an aged father and mother, one sister and four brothers and a large number of other relatives and friends, who mourn her death.
Her brother Rev. Chris Galeener, who is now Presiding Elder of the Decatur District, and who is one of the brilliant young men of the Illinois Conference, was intimately associated with the deceased in his earlier years and was surely stimulated by her christian influence.
During the last decade of her life, she has been a sufferer from the effects of disease, but has borne it all with fortitude and patience. She has often referred to quotations from the epic-patriarchal book of Job, from which she realized great comfort in her afflictions. Although an invalid for years, she has imparted into the life and character of her family the great unbounding love and wisdom of a Divine Creator and has grandly exemplified the same in her own life. Death has put out a light to the pathway of her children, which can not be replaced by any earthly power.
The one great desire of her heart, that she might be permitted to live long enough to see all her children happily converted, was granted her. She gave evidence to the expression, "It is well with my soul," a few days prior to her death.
The funeral services were held Friday evening, in the M.E. church conducted by her pastor Rev. Coleman, after which the body was interred in the Woodland Cemetery.
