Anne Frances Doherty Henderson passed away on Wednesday, October 19, 2011. She was born in Brooklyn, NY.

Her parents and extended family settled in New York from Ireland. She grew up among family, friends, and community, mostly Roman Catholic, whose values were steadfast grounded on hard work, honesty, and loyalty to their kin, their principles, and their faith.

As a young girl, she attended St. Francis Xavier grade school. In her teens, she attended Bishop McDonnell High School in Brooklyn.

She also attended the Fashion Institute of Technology and Design in New York City. She then went on to work as a secretary for Cities Service Oil Corporation, and International Latex Corporation in Manhattan. A person of independence and self-reliance, she left her home and neighborhood and moved to Boston to accept a position with the NASA Liaison Office of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Astronauts were frequent visitors and were among her acquaintances.

In 1967, she joined American Airlines and attended the company's Flight Academy in Dallas/Fort Worth. In May of that year, she won her wings as a Flight Attendant.

She met her husband, Walter, in 1970 and they were married in 1973. They lived in the Georgetown section of Washington, D.C. In 1976, their son Kevin was born. Mrs. Henderson's travel experience with American Airlines enabled her and her husband, Walter, to travel extensively with Kevin.

In 1978, they moved to McLean, VA, where she took an active role in the community. Her outgoing personality and leadership skills soon led her to office as President of the Potomac Hills Garden Club. She was also active in the Kiwis, an association of retired flight attendants.

She was also an active parishioner at Christ Church in Georgetown, where she and Walter were married and their son, Kevin, was baptized and married.

She is survived by her husband Walter, son Kevin, grandson Walter Peirce, sister Maureen Senft, of Staten Island, NY, her two children, Michelle and Eric, and stepchildren Gwen Parsons, Sheila Sorrells, and Ian Henderson.

Mrs. Henderson's memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, November 3 at Christ Church, Georgetown, located at 3116, O Street NW, Washington, D.C. Her funeral will be held at 9 a.m. on Monday, December 19 at the Old Post Chapel at Fort Myer in Arlington, where at the conclusion of the ceremony, she will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery.

Memorial donations in Mrs. Henderson's name may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project at Wounded Warrior Project, Attn: Donor Services, 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 300, Jacksonville, FL 32256.
