In addition to being an excellent cook and avid plant grower, she worked many positions outside of the home. During World War II she worked at the National Fireworks in West Hanover and later at Raytheon in Brockton. In the late 60s Ellie was the leader of the 4H horse club Golden Spurs; guiding young teens in the care and training of their horses.
