Fred C. Hemenway, 97, of Park Rapids, died Friday, Sept. 28, 2012 at Heritage Living Center in Park Rapids.

Fred Charles Hemenway was born Jan. 5, 1915 in Kamiah, Idaho the son of Arthur and Mary (Janisch) Hemenway.

He and his family moved to Park Rapids in 1919. He attended the Hubbard Township-Stoney Lake County School. He worked on the family farm.

He married Ellen Vogtman in 1939. She died in 1954. He married Bonnie Burnham June 1, 1957 in Worthington. He continued to farm. He was the top Minnesota dairy farmer in 1969. Fred retired from farming in 1969.

In 1980 they moved to Park Rapids. He worked for Harold Malm as a mechanic. He also worked for Phil Wolff keeping the golf course equipment in great working order. Fred enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Fred was a member of the Church of Christ in Park Rapids. He served the Stoney Lake School Board and the Park Rapids Co-op Creamery Board.

Fred is survived by his wife, Bonnie Hemenway of Park Rapids; son, Donald (Dorothy) Hemenway of Park Rapids; two stepsons, Allen (Barbara) Burnham of Truman, Marvin (Claire) Burnham of Puyallup, Wash.; stepdaughter, Marlys (Roger) Lathrop of Glyndon; 13 grandchildren; 40 great- grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Ellen; four brothers, Gregory, Floyd, Harold, George; and three sisters, Adaline, Ann and Sylvia.

Funeral services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, at the Church of Christ in Park Rapids. Pastor Scott Warne will be the officiant. Congregational hymns are "Beyond The Sunset," "No Tears In Heaven," "Our God, He Is Alive" and "Precious Lord Take My Hand."

Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday evening, Oct. 2, at the Cease Family Funeral Home Chapel in Park Rapids and one hour before the services at the church.

Active casketbearers: Kerry Hemenway, Kevin Hemenway, George Hemenway, Dwaine Hemenway, Leland Lathrop and Eldon Lathrop.

Interment: Greenwood Cemetery in Park Rapids.
