Memorial service for Clyde Helmbolt, age 84, of Gary, SD will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 4, 2008 in the United Methodist Church in Gary, SD. Rev. Samuel Sunandkumar will officiate. Clyde passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2008 at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.
Burial will be in the Grandview Cemetery in Gary, SD. Honorary pallbearers will be Clyde's grandchildren: Barbara Gilliland, Troy Helmbolt, Shane Nord, Angelique Taylor, JoLinda Niemeyer, Shawn Helmbolt, NiCole Niemeyer and all great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
Clyde Helmbolt was born on July 23, 1924 near Gary, SD to Harry and Beatrice (Colbert) Helmbolt. Clyde was raised near Gary and remained living there most of his life. He worked at various jobs, shearing sheep for over 20 years.
Clyde was united in marriage to Agnes Jensen on October 11, 1947. They lived in Gary, SD most of their married life. Clyde owned a gravel truck and worked on construction jobs until he retired. On Wednesday, August 27, 2008 Clyde had a heart attack and was transferred to Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD where he passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2008 at the age of 84 years, 1 month and 8 days.
Clyde was a member of the United Methodist Church in Gary, SD. He was an avid fisherman and hunter but had to give up both due to poor health. Clyde remembered bagging 40 some deer with a bow and arrow. Later in life, Clyde enjoyed watching sports on television and feeding and watching birds.
Clyde is survived by his wife, Agnes Helmbolt of Gary, SD; two sons, Lyndon Helmbolt of Stamford, CT and Roger (Cindy) Helmbolt of Lake Norden, SD; one daughter, Marilyn (Peter) Kray of Clara City, MN; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margie Hillman of Battle Lake, MN and Betty (Lyle) Hasse of Brandon, SD and many other relatives and friends.
Clyde is preceded in death by his one son, Marvin who drowned in Lake Elsie; one infant daughter, Linda Jo; one grandson, Cory Lynn Helmbolt; parents; five brothers and one sister.
