Francis Megis Helm...born and died in Warrenton, Fauquier County, Virginia ~ ~ ~ Obituary ~ ~ ~ Monday 1 April 1872 - Alexandria Gazette - page 3.FRANK MEIGS HELM was born on the 7th of April 1848 and died on Sunday night, the 24th of March 1872. It is believed that the sad accident occurred by the discharge of a pistol while he was in the act of removing it from a drawer to its accustomed place under his pillow. The deceased entered the Confederate army before he was seventeen years old, and was soon disabled by a wound in his arm. After the war he engaged in business with his father in Warrenton, Virginia and was thus employed at the time of his death. In this place, where he has lived from his childhood, we need not say, that he possessed a large share of those qualities that command respect and win friendship . Honorable in his principles of action, delicate and sensitive in his nature, genial in spirit and affable in manner, he excited the kindly interest of all who met him in the chance of intercourse of social or business life, and attracted to himself the warm affection of those who knew him intimately. He was young, buoyant and strong, and a future was opening before him that might have been useful and prosperous. On the very day that closed his earthly career, he had made noble resolutions, which seemed to throw a still brighter light over the vista of coming life. Alast the shadow of death has fallen upon it . Flushed with the health and hope, with the powers of youth just maturing into manhood, he was cut down . Heavy is the bereavement of his devoted family . His aged Father sustained the loss of three sons in the war, and now a forth is taken as suddenly as if in battle . A deep sympathy with the afflicted friends pervades this community, as was evinced by the large and serious congregation that crowded St. James' Church at the funeral, on last Tuesday afternoon . May God soothe and strengthen the stricken family, and " so teach us to number our days that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. "
