David Owen Helm was the youngest of eleven children born to Moses and Nancy Russell (Owen) Helm. His siblings were: James Monroe, Mary Ann, John Barnett Owen, Sarah Elizabeth, Thomas Oliver, Martha Jane, William D, Moses Frank, Robert Jordan, and Benjamin Carson Helm.
David was a farmer and he married Lydia Amanda (Boadley) on 9 Feb 1854 in Butler Co., Kentucky. Four children were born to that union: John Broadley, William A, Ida D and Robert C Helm.
