Marjorie Hellman Diffenbaugh, 87, of Shawnee, Kansas, passed away Monday evening, February 19, 2007 in the Brighton Gardens Sunrise Living Center in Prairie Village, KS. Marjorie was born August 17, 1919 at East Leavenworth, Missouri to Edward S. and Mildred (Shields) Hellman. She attended Beverly Grade School and graduated from Weston High School in 1937. She graduated from St. Johns Hospital School of Nursing, Leavenworth, Kansas in 1941. She entered the Army Nurse Corp, February 22, 1943 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. She was then sent to Clinton, Iowa and from there she served in Brisbane and Sidney, Australia, Noumea, New Caledonia and Okinawa. She received an Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon W/1 Bronze Battle Star and four overseas service bars. She was honorably discharged at Fort Sheridan, Illinois January 15, 1946. She later retired from working as a R.N. Marjorie was married to Henry B. Diffenbaugh, June 1, 1958 in Miami, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death August 13, 2003. Also preceding her in death were her parents; two brothers, Jay & Arlos Hellman and one sister, Inez Bryant. Surviving are two daughters; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother; one sister; and several nieces and nephews. Marjorie was baptized at the Old Cathedral of Immaculate Conception in Leavenworth. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #327 of Shawnee and the VFW Post #324 of Weston, MO. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and was a Nascar fan. Funeral services were held Monday, February 26, 2007 at Belden-Sexton-Sumpter Funeral Home, 500 Oak Street, Leavenworth. Visitation was funeral home. Burial will be in Leavenworth National Cemetery military honors. The family has suggested memorials to Good Shepherd Hospice, 2611 State Line Road, Ste, 200, Kansas City, MO 64114. (Arrangements have been entrusted to Belden-Larkin Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Leavenworth).
