Anna Maria Barrett was born in April of 1857 in New York. She married James A Hellems, around 1875. They had nine children: James Arthur Sr, Mary Lillian Agnes, William E, Ella Gertrude, Emma, Annie, Maud, Alice, and Corp Frank J Hellems. Maud was stillborn; James died in 1892, when Anna was pregnant with their last child. The 1900 US Census of Erie County, New York, lists Anna as living at 59 Van Renssalaer in Buffalo with seven children. Anna Barrett Hellems died from cardiac dilation, 10 May 1943, aged 85, in Buffalo, and was buried at Holy Cross Cemetery in Lackawanna, New York.
