Mary Margaret "Rose" Bencken, the daughter of Gertrude Malloy, was born May 5, 1927 at Los Angeles, California. She departed this life on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at the Heritage Care Center in Red Cloud, Nebraska at the age of 83 years and 11 months.
At the age of one, Rose was placed in St. Thomas Orphange in Lincoln, Nebraska. When she was five years of age she was adopted by Carl and Rose (Nollette) Heitz. She received her formal education attending rural schools in Nuckolls County. As a young adult, Rose loved to roller skate, as well as dance.
Rose was united in marriage on May 6, 1946 with Leonard J. Bencken at Superior, Nebraska. They made their home farming northeast of Red Cloud. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and embroidery work.
Rose was a communicant of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Sacred Heart Altar Society and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Leonard, on May 25, 2000; a daughter; her parents and a sister, Elsie Alber.
Left to cherish her memory are four daughters, Janet Place of Fairbury, Nebraska; Joyce Terhune and husband Ted of Great Falls, Montana; Shirley Dahms of Omaha, Nebraska and Sheryl McCracken and husband Bill of Dyersburg, Tennessee; 7 grandchildren, Jacque (Place) and Ed May of Lincoln, Nebraska; Mary (Place) and Chris Schaffert of Aurora, Nebraska; Dean (D.J.) Place of Campbell, Nebraska; Angela (Dahms) and Sherif Tewfik of Grimes, Iowa; Adam Dahms of Omaha, Nebraska; Teresa (Zalman) and Pat Long of Red Cloud and Tonja (Zalman) and Casey Woods of Laramie, Wyoming; 11 great grandchildren, Rachael and Reanne May; Hassan, Yousef and Soraya Tewfik; Tyler Dahms; Dalton, Morgan and Riley Long; and Alexis and Quentin Woods; other relatives and friends.
